Description

The Feminist Anti-Violence Research (FemAnVi) is happy to invite you to its sixth international conference Combatting Violence against Women: Feminist Research, Policies and Practices. The conference will take place at University of Ottawa on April 8 & 9, 2025.

This bilingual symposium (with simultaneous translation into French and English) will celebrate both the 10th anniversary of the Collectif de recherche FemAnVi and 50 years of feminist struggles against violence against women.

This symposium focuses on the issue of violence against women, an important and topical subject, particularly in view of the multiple waves of reports of sexual violence and the high rates of feminicide. These observations highlight the importance of implementing measures to ensure women’s safety and prevent violence against them. The feminist movement has played a central role in the development of research, policy and practice in this field. This symposium will therefore take a historical look at feminist struggles against violence against women, and highlight the positive spin-offs of these struggles. It will identify the elements that foster the development of research, policies and practices aimed at countering violence against women, as well as the strategies to be favoured in order to overcome the challenges facing feminist interveners.
